Shopping online makes life much easier. you can sit on your couch, watch TV talk to your family and friends and not worry about sales people pressuring you to make a purchase. This holds true when shopping for wheels and tires as well. However ordering wheel and tires online is much different then ordering a MP3 player. You must be careful to make sure you are getting the correct fitment for your vehicle.

Tire shopping is a little easier. if you are just replacing your tires then it is easy. You can just search your size, find the tires you want and click the order button. This will help you determine if the new tire will work.

Ordering wheels or rims online can be a little more tricky. Many websites allow you to input your vehicle to help you determine fitment. This helps tremendously however be sure you know the exact year make and model of your vehicle. An example would be that in 98 Ford Escort came with 2 different bolt patterns depending on the model of Escort. Plus sizing is a popular way of buying wheels today. The important thing to remember when plus sizing is to keep the same offset and circumference. You can use the Tire Size calculator above to compare tires to see the circumference. Filed under: Custom Rims — admin @ 3:54 pm

Car rims popularity continues to increase! Through movements such as hip hop culture, as well as their appearance in mainstream music videos and Hollywood movies custom wheels have definitely taken a spotlight in terms off “the” car accessory of choice for when you want to make your car stand out and claim king on the streets. I seriously think the rappers really got the whole wheel and dub wheels thing going, I don’t really remember it being such a fad until all those videos started coming out on MTV.

Just like other car accessories when it comes to picking out car rims you’ll have a wide array of options to look at including wheel materials and rim sizes.

Car rim sizes are not to be overlooked as not all sizes and models will fit properly with your car and current tire size. Before you even get into shopping for your wheels you need to either go visit a mechanic or take your car into a specialist to find out exactly what size and style will be able to work with your model of car as well as what would suit your driving patterns and goals.

Wheels sizes for compact vehicles will be about 13 inches and that number will just continue to grow for larger cars like SUVs where 24 or 25 inch wheels will be a bit more commonplace.

Another term you’ll start to hear about as you look into getting the right size rims for your car or truck is “Plus Sizing”. This just refers to when the rims are actually getting bigger in relation to the current tire size. It can provide and amazing look and now even major automobile companies can be found offering plus sizing on their stock vehicles. Plus sizing not only gives your wheels a bigger visual impact but it can help you out when it comes to handling and control of your car.

So what about rim materials? There are also different materials to choose from when it comes to materials. Not only will different materials demand higher or lower prices but they will also affect car performance.

Chrome and Alloy wheels are probably the most popular materials being used to make car rims on the market at the moment. Alloy is the material that most are made of when you buy them at the dealership. They are light, fairly easy to keep clean, and aren’t usually too expensive. They are a good all around rim for doing your daily driving and getting around with ease.

When shopping for wheels there is much to know before selecting a style. You need to make sure the wheel will fit on your car and not adversely affect performance. Sometime wheels can be simply too big, bigger is not always better. Bigger wheels usually means more weight and can affect brake performance and cornering performance, not to mention ride harshness. Be smart and call the seller with any and all questions.

How do Spinning Rims work?

Filed under: Custom Rims — Tags: — admin @ 12:29 pm

Most Spinning Rims are attachments. They attach to existing custom wheels. Spinning Rims are attached to regular custom wheels using special lug nuts. Once the lug nuts are in place the spinning rims have special bolts that thread into the special lug nuts. Allowing the spinning Rims attachment to be mounted.

The actual spinning part is made much like regular custom wheels as seen in our custom wheels construction page. Then a base is attached. The spinner part is then attached to the base usually with a large diameter precision bolt assembly. The spinner then rides on a heavy duty sealed bearing.

Centrifugal Force is responsible for the spinners to keep spinning while stopped at the stop light. High quality bearings and good quality construction makes some spinning rims perform better and spin longer.

Mainly Rear Wheel Drive custom wheels can take spinning rims. Reason for this is they are deep enough so that the spinning rims can ride inside the wheel. If the spinning rims ride outside the custom wheels then they can get damaged, in addition would hit the body of the car during cornering or going over bumps.

For the best prices and very experienced staff choose Gotgreatwheels.com for your Spinning Rims.

How to Select Wheel Rims

Filed under: Custom Rims — admin @ 2:14 pm

For some drivers, the biggest concern with their car’s tire rims or wheels is appearance. But an owner’s choice of rims really affects the car’s performance, too.

When selecting your new wheel rims think about buying alloy wheels if you do a lot of driving in the mountains or in stop-and-go traffic. Some alloy wheels are designed to encourage cool air flow over the brakes to prevent overheating. The alloy itself can help dissipate heat, too. Aluminum is a great alloy if it is made right. Most alloy wheels are gravity cast. Although these are the cheapest, they are also heavier and more prone to bending. Look for a wheel that is either low-pressure cast or forged. They will cost more, but it will save weight and add strength. Forged magnesium is the lightest and often the strongest. It’s also the most expensive. Keep in mind, sizing up more than two inches will actually add weight to the wheels, so plus-sizing should be done conservatively. Go for a wider rather than taller wheel.

Choose a “Plus-size” for your rims if you want to improve performance and add a sportier look. With a larger inner diameter, you’ll find steering is more responsive and your car holds the road better. Purchasing rims that are one or two sizes larger than what you have means you’ll have to buy new tires as well. While the outside diameter of the tire your car uses should remain the same, the inner diameter, with wrapped around the rim, needs to be bigger to fit a bigger rim.

When sizing wheels, it is also important to purchase a wheel with the correct offset. The offset may be measured when viewing the backside of the wheel by placing a flat object such as a yardstick against the back of the wheel and measuring the distance between the yardstick and the surface that mate with the hub. An incorrect offset will cause problems with steering and handling, and will be illegal if it causes the tire to stick out beyond the fender.

Make sure your car’s bolt pattern matches the new rims you’re purchasing. Please keep in mind that when purchasing wheels, three things matter bolt pattern, offset and hub size.

Look for rims that aren’t too heavy for your vehicle. Big, steel rims on a small car can decrease handling ability. Heavy wheels are not supported by your car’s suspension and therefore useless for smoothing out the ride or improving balance in driving maneuvers. Be sure any wheels you buy have a maximum-load rating compatible with your vehicle.

Rims come in a staggering array of designs. For something spectacular, skip the tire store and check out custom-tuned car shows and specialty catalogs. Chrome Rims

Getting chrome rims is the best thing to do for your car to add some style and elegance. There is simply nothing else you can do to set your car apart from all the others out there with the same make and model of car. Due to their eye catching appeal, ease of upkeep, and the very unique look, they are really worth investing on. Custom rims will help give your car, truck, or SUV that extraordinary look that sets it apart.

Rim is widely used term rather than wheels even if the term “rim” is incorrect because the rim is only a portion of a wheel, just as with a coffee cup or meteor crater. Rims have a great deal of variation, and these are often very shiny. Some include a bearing-mounted, free-spinning disc which continues to rotate by inertia after the automobile is stopped. These are referred to as “Spinners” in slang.

When shopping, be sure to research online before buying. Make sure that the style you like will be a good fit for your car, you don’t want the tires rubbing your fenders around corners, it would permanently damage your new tires and wheels. When shopping online you will also be able to find the best deals on your new custom wheels.
