Cedar Chest

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

All sorts of wood are used in the craft of making furniture. Cedar, however, stands out as a favorite of furniture makers. Desired for its attractive features, cedar has reputation for being ideal in making furniture, including storage chests. A cedar storage chest adds beauty and elegance to any family home.

The hope chest has a romantic history. In the olden times, mothers would maintain a hope chest for their daughters and they would keep adding valuable and priceless memories and objects to the chest that they thought that their daughters would need after her marriage.

This chest is made up of cedar or oak and isvery beautiful. In fact, you can give a hope chest to your daughter or even your son on their graduation or when they are about to move to a new apartment.

There are many varieties of hope chests with different designs and made up of a wide range of materials nowadays. They are themselves a unique gift idea. However, you can also add personalised gifts to the chest to make it an even better option as a gift. Some wonderful gift ideas for a hope chest can be listed as follows.

There are many types of cedar chest and size can vary with each style. The typical chest is made of the fragrant cedar wood, which keeps things on the inside smelling fresh and sweet, and supposedly repels moths. The chest usually has a large compartment for storage, may feature a few drawers that can be removed, and it has a flat lid. Some lids are rounded but flats lids are usually more practical, because you can then use thechest for sitting when it is closed.

Due to variance in size, depth of the cedar chest can also be different. Most have a depth of about 19-20 inches (48.26-50.8 cm). Greater depth does translate to greater storage capacity.

You’ll also find that you can buy cedar chests in a variety of styles and designs. Some are highly decorative and reference some particular period in furniture design. A few even offer a back on the lid, which converts the cedar chest into a bench of sorts. Finishes on the chest can range and you can even buy unfinished chests and apply your own varnish at home. Interiors are usually unvarnished, since this allows the aroma of the wood to circulate inside the cedar chest.

A shopper does not have to spend a great deal of money to own such a chest. Most chests only cost a few hundred dollars, although more expensive models are certainly available. Higher end models can sell for as much as one thousand dollars. Regardless of price, cedar furniture is both organic and strong, although pieces made of cedar are light enough to be moved throughout a person’s home. Newlyweds especially like cedar chests for their attractiveness and for their strength. A young married woman can be assured that her items in the chest will be protected. The chest itself will be something she can give to her children to treasure and use.

Nesting Tables

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

Nesting and nested tables basically constitute an arrangement of two or more tables of different sizes and/or shapes where they fit one inside another. They are extremely popular for their flexibility and optimum use of space. The entire set of tables is referred to as ‘nesting tables’ while each member individually is known as a nested table.

Although they may be exclusively used for adding a stylish tone to your rooms’ interiors, their functionality can never be ignored. They can complement other uses of tables like accent tables, bedside tables or sofa tables. They can be used as a set or you can use each nested table individually depending on various space requirements. When used as a set, you can conserve space with an option to pull out any of the nested tables when needed. Thus these tables are ideal for smaller spaces where other table options are not suitable. These tables can be used for placement of decorative items, books and magazines, collectibles, floral or lighting arrangements. Yes, these tables can virtually be used in any of your rooms where you feel their necessity.

Styles and designs of nesting tables are literally vast. There are thousands of these table designs available in the furniture world. They vary as per the materials used to craft them. Although wooden versions (oak, cherry etc) are very popular, contemporary interior decoration styles allow you to have glass-top wrought iron tables that perfectly match the surroundings. Shapes of them can be round, oval, square or rectangular. They are usually taller than other accent or side tables since tables need to fit one inside the other. They usually do not have drawers or shelves although there are few designs that feature a drawer in the largest piece with occasional shelves or cabinets in the smallest nested table.

Memory Foam Mattress

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

There are many different types of mattresses available to buy but it is widely accepted that to experience the best night’s sleep, memory foam is the best option. Two types of mattresses that are commonly purchased are traditional coil spring mattresses and memory foam mattresses. Many consumers feel that the benefits of the memory foam mattress significantly outweigh those of the coil spring mattress.

There are different types of foam mattress: latex (which springs back when you get up) and visco-elastic, or ‘memory foam’, which doesn’t, but leaves an imprint of your body. But you have to be careful, warns BackCare, not to get stuck in your own moulded hollow.

Lying in one position can create stiffness. A mattress should be supportive enough to take the weight of your body without sagging, but firm enough for you to turn with ease.

Memory foam is manufactured from visco elastic polyurethane foam and has some unique qualities. Snoozing on a full memory foam mattress causes it to conform, or mold, to the shape of the body, but it will then return to its initial shape, consequently the name memory foam. It was first made for NASA nearly 40 years ago, but as production costs decreased it was made available to the public in the 1990s. Since then it has enjoyed an impressive rise in status.

The majority of the confusion with visco memory foam is because of the many densities and levels of firmness that are for sale. Density is the weight of a 1-cubic foot section of foam. If a 1-cubic foot section weighs 5 pounds its density is also 5 pounds. Normally, if the foam is denser it will have a longer lifespan, but the less soft it will feel.

ILD, short for Indentation Load Deflection, is how firmness is rated. ILD is the amount of power required, measured in pounds, to cause a 1 inch indentation in the foam. Measuring the Indentation Load Deflection is done by laying a 50-inch disc onto a section of foam that is measured at 4×15x15 inches. The amount of weight in pounds necessary to press the foam down 1 inch is its ILD rating. If it takes 14 pounds to compress the foam down an inch its ILD rating is 14. A mattress that has a lower ILD rating is softer.

Sleeping on a typical spring mattress will cause more force on specific points such as the hips or shoulders. A memory foam mattress will distribute the body weight of a person more evenly and over a greater area. This will lessen the degree of pressure in any specific area which can result in a more restful snooze and decreased back or joint aches.

Memory foam retains heat and is why many individuals do not care for it. When somebody lies on one of these foam mattresses it will originally feel stiff. Later, as soon as the heat from the body is transferred to the foam it will begin to become softer, causing it to conform, or mold, to the persons body curves. The foam below the heat will stay cooler and less soft, providing great support, while the warmer foam will be softer, providing added comfort. Many people with lower back pain will notice that their ache goes away due to sleepingon a full memory foam mattress.

Outdoor Furniture.

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

You are planning some family picnics and outdoor gatherings at your home this summer, you’ll need some outdoor patio furniture. There are many different types, shapes, sizes and colors of patio furniture. You can get a square table that seats four, a round table for six with a huge umbrella, and even lounge chairs to boot.

Most indoor furniture can not be used outdoors due to the elements of the weather. Therefore, outdoor furniture is typically especially designed for the outdoors. There two main differences between outdoor and indoor furniture is in design and material. The design of outdoor furniture is typically simple with particular attention to weather resistance. For example, many outdoor tables and chairs have holes or slits so that water will not build up and wind can blow through. This design is usually not incorporated for indoor furniture. Another important difference is in the use of material. Outdoor furniture are usually made of material that will resist corrosion and decay from the weather. These materials can be metal, plastic or some durable woods.

Outdoor furniture is typically made of weather resistant materials like cedar, teak, wicker, wrought iron, aluminum and stainless steel etc.Teak outdoor furniture is one of the most attractive, weather resistant, longest lasting types of outdoor furniture available on the current market. Lower-end outdoor wicker is often woven on a rattan frame, a natural material that does not hold up to moisture as well as aluminum, steel or teak. Steel and aluminum won’t warp or come unglued, and aluminum offers the advantage of being rust proof. Teak is a weather resistant tropical hardwood. On the other hand, For cedar outdoor furniture, the bad weathers will not easily compromise the integrity of the material. That means that outdoor furniture made from cedar has natural resistance to rotting, to cracking, and to warping- leaving just the natural beauty of the wood. Aluminum is a lightweight and easily molded metal that will not rust. It was first used to construct outdoor furniture in the early 1960’s, when it was made from extruded, hollow-core tubing. Wrought iron furniture is an elegant yet affordable way to liven up your deck and patio area. Wrought iron has been used for centuries in furniture and decorating, and today, we have a selection of furniture that’s both decorative and functional, designed and to be enjoyed indoors and out.

Outdoor furniture has evolved nicely from the days of the rocking chair on the front porch to casual, classy and sometimes very formal outdoor furniture settings on today’s decks and patios. Find a wide selection of modern outdoor furniture at Everything Furniture.com!
